Description

This trail is only partially secured and is not a via ferrata in the classic sense. The strenuous climb along the rocky ledge is exposed, very hot in summer, and recommended only for climbers with secure footing. But for those looking for a stimulating summit ascent, relative tranquility, and a beautiful view over the Cortina basin, the "Croda Walk" (as this trail is also called) is ideal.

Access & starting point

From Dobbiaco in Val Pusteria, through Val di Landro, to just before Cortina at the village of Chiave. Before this village, on the left, is a road to the Codivilla-Putti Hospital, where a paid parking lot is located.

Approach

From the parking lot, briefly follow the bike path toward Cortina, then take trail no. 202. The trail climbs up the large rocky gully descending from the Forcella del Pomagagnon (descent route of the Strobel Ferrata). The rest of the approach to the start of the path is signposted.

Route

A challenging and long summit loop that requires good physical condition, mountain experience, and especially secure footing. The Zumeles Equipped Path ends at a small saddle just below Punta Erbing. From there, an easy trail leads right to the summit.

Technical Details

The trail is only partially secured. The long third rocky ledge of the Pomagagnon leads to Punta Erbing. It is very exposed and winds through steep scree and crumbly rock sections. In summer, it's recommended to start early (southern slope: no water, very hot).

Descent

From the summit, return to the saddle descending north to trail no. 05, then follow it to Forcella Zumeles. Trail no. 204 descends south to Rifugio Col Tondo and beyond to the starting point.
