A long and demanding hike with short steel cable-secured sections on the summit ridge. This is certainly not a route for via ferrata enthusiasts who "seek the iron" (i.e., climbers who prefer longer secured sections). An experienced mountaineer could easily complete this climb without needing to secure themselves. For those seeking a beautiful hike in a remote environment (only relatively isolated after the Gran Fanes pasture), this route is a good choice. The climb to Monte Vallon Bianco requires a steady pace and good weather, and is best done in combination with the Furcia Rossa Ferrata (only for experienced climbers in excellent physical condition).
Through Val Badia towards San Cassiano and beyond in the direction of Passo Valparola. Just before the Ponte Sciaré, turn left and continue until the Capanna Alpina inn (1726 m, parking available).
From Capanna Alpina, follow path no. 11, which crosses Col de Locia to reach Col Tadega (2157 m). Continue toward Malga Gran Fanes. About 5 minutes before reaching the pasture, turn right on trail no. 17. Shortly after this, follow the signposted trail toward Monte Castello (signposted), climb above it and continue left on the marked VB trail (Vallon Bianco). Further up, cross a large valley, then turn left again and ascend serpent-like rocky slopes. After some WWI military ruins, reach a fork (old signs, some faded). Go right to follow the Vallon Bianco trail, which alternates between exposed sections and easier terrain, until you reach another junction. An old signpost directs you left (right leads to the summit of Furcia Rossa). Keep climbing, passing a deep "crack" in the rock. Continue zig-zagging up, with short sections secured by steel cables, until you reach the summit (many WWI ruins present).
The long descent follows the same path as the ascent.
