Description

A climb to the highest point of the Sella group, technically not very difficult. Several secured sections and a ridge lead to Rifugio Capanna Piz Fassa on Piz Boè, the highest elevation of the Sella Massif.

Access & starting point

Via Val Gardena or Val Badia to Corvara. Park at the base of the Boè cable car.

Approach

Take the cable car, then the Vallon chairlift. From the top station, follow the signs to Rifugio Franz Kostner al Vallon and take trail no. 672.

Route

The Lichtenfels Trail is not a classic ferrata but more of a partly equipped hike. Its exposed position and the wide Sella expanses can pose risks in case of sudden weather changes.

Technical Details

An extremely scenic route suitable for beginners who want to gain experience. The partially unprotected sections in the upper part are technically easy but require steady footing and concentration.

Descent

Either along the ascent route or via trail 638 to Rifugio Franz Kostner at Vallon.
