Short descent with ladder, but exposed; sections of easy free climbing (Grade I), the rest follows a steep path or terrain equipped with steel cable.
From Val d'Ega via Passo di Costalunga, descend to Val di Fassa until Vigo di Fassa. Take the cable car to Ciampedìe to reach the Belvedere lookout, and from there walk approx. 45 minutes to Gardeccia. Alternatively, drive to Pera di Fassa and hike up to Ciampedìe using the lifts.
From Gardeccia, 1950 m, take trail no. 546 to Rifugio Vajolet, 2243 m. Then climb to Passo Principe on trail no. 584 and continue to Rifugio Passo Principe, 2601 m. The start of the route is above the hut. Alternative access: from Bagni di Lavina Bianca (above the village of San Cipriano in Val di Tires), take trails no. 3 and 3A for approx. 3 hours to Rifugio Bergamo (2165 m), then continue to Passo Principe where the route begins.
A full-day excursion, very rewarding for well-trained alpinists. The descent along the ferrata is long and should not be underestimated. During the traverse, especially at the start, pay attention to lingering snow along the wall. On steep slopes, cable anchors may be hidden by snow. In such cases, prefer the west-side descent route.
The free climbing sections require absolute security of footing, both ascending and descending. For the traverse, perfect weather and alpine experience are essential.
Follow the east ferrata along the ridge crest. Follow the red markers southward. Descend into Vallon d'Antermoia on a partly equipped path (cable and ladders) and partly on trail traces. From there, continue on a good path southward to Passo d'Antermoia and descend to Passo Principe.
