Via Ferrata Col Rodella
Description
A short ferrata, fully equipped with steel cables, with some airy and exposed points, and a short rocky step with iron rungs. Watch for falling rocks in the first few metres.
Access & starting point
Via Val Gardena toward Passo Sella. Park below the pass at the cable car station for Sassolungo.
Approach
From the parking area, head toward Rifugio Valentini and along a scree trail to Forcella Rodella. Climb left to Rifugio des Alpes and the cable car top station. On descent, pass below the station and stay right on an unmarked trail until the launch area for paragliders (flag marker). The ferrata start is just above the flag.
Route
Short hike with spectacular views. Easy ascent and descent. Varied scrambling, good rock, steep terrain in places, some exposed sections. Restaurant available at the summit.
Technical Details
Some short steps with few holds, though well protected. Short distance between anchors, steel cable is thick and taut. A short steep section is aided with iron rungs. The southern exposure allows ascent early in the season and into late autumn (only in stable weather).
Descent
From the summit via a wide path to Rifugio des Alpes.
