The Berti ferrata is usually described as a section of the Sorapiss circuit. However, it can also be done starting from the Faloria cable car above Cortina, ending at Rifugio Scotter above San Vito di Cadore. Return from San Vito to Cortina is by local bus. The ferrata's access trail is relatively short but very exposed, and the overall route is long. Solid mountain experience and sure footing in unsecured terrain are absolutely essential. At the end of the ferrata, there is a simple emergency shelter, Bivacco Slataper. As a one-day hike, this is reserved for highly fit, experienced alpinists.
Through Val Pusteria to Dobbiaco, then through Val di Landro to Cortina.
Alternatively, via any Dolomite passes toward Cortina. Paid parking near the Cortina bus station (former train station), where the lower station of the Faloria cable car is also located.
Take the lift to the upper station.
From the upper station (2123 m), follow trail no. 213 toward Rifugio Tondi, continuing to Forcella Faloria, where trails diverge. Continue on trail 215 toward Punta Nera. After reaching Forcella della Punta Nera, descend on the other side (steel cable section). At the next junction, turn left toward Rifugio Vandelli and continue on trail 242 to Forcella Sora la Cengia del Banco. After some short climbing sections (difficulty I–II), you reach the exposed Cengia del Banco, a ledge partly secured with cables.
A very long alpine excursion — good physical condition and perfect weather are essential. You must time your day carefully to avoid missing the last lift down from Rifugio Scotter. Overnight stays are possible at Rifugio San Marco or Rifugio Scotter. Bivacco Slataper is only for emergency shelter.
The ferrata is equipped with new steel cables and short anchor spacing. The Cengia del Banco is very exposed and only partially secured. The Berti ferrata proper is very steep, passing through dark, overhanging walls. A series of ladders goes vertically both up and down.
From Bivacco Slataper, continue to the trail junction and follow trail 246 to Forcella Grande. Descend trail 226 to Rifugio San Marco and then Rifugio Scotter (top station of chairlift – check opening hours!). You can descend via the lift or continue a bit on foot to San Vito.
