Via Val Gardena toward Passo Sella. Park just below the summit of the pass at the cable car station for Sassolungo.
Take the cable car or hike to Rifugio Toni Demetz at Forcella Sassolungo. From there descend to Rifugio Vicenza (trail 525), above which cross the Vallone del Sasso Piatto, then right to the start, crossing over scree.
Despite the new route, the ferrata is still at risk of rockfall, especially in the lower section. Early summer snow or unstable rock in the gullies can cause trouble. Short sections at the beginning and the exit gully are unprotected (UIAA I/I+). Check route conditions before starting.
A beautiful climb in wild terrain at the heart of the Sassolungo group. Due to the high mountain environment and the route's length, stamina and climbing ability are essential. The long descent on the southwest-facing slope can be exhausting on hot days.
Descend the steep southwest slope of Sasso Piatto (trail 527) to Rifugio Sasso Piatto. Then take trail Federico Augusto back to the start. To shorten the return (approx. 15 min), once at the foot of Sasso Piatto, cross left through open meadows to reach trail Federico Augusto.
