Description

A long ferrata, mostly equipped with steel cables. On the steep initial wall, metal rungs are also present. Some sections involve easy scrambling (Grade I), with exposed trail segments.

Access & starting point

From Val d'Isarco, enter Val Gardena and head toward Santa Cristina. At Hotel Dosses, turn off for the car park at the Col Raiser cable car base station.

Approach

From the top station, follow the dirt road northward. At the "Sass Rigais" sign, the marked trail begins. Pass under the Odle wall to reach the sign marked "Ferrata" on the grassy terrace of Plan Ciautier.

Route

This is an ideal climb for a traverse, descending via the easier south ferrata. Experience and good fitness are essential. On the east climb, the steel cables are taut; the steep wall is made easier by the metal rungs.

Technical Details

A relatively short ferrata with a long approach and descent. The easy, unprotected scrambling sections and exposed trail demand solid mountaineering experience and sure footing. The summit traverse is not to be underestimated (risk of falling rocks on the south wall during descent).

Descent

Return via the ascent route (east) or via the south ferrata, where cables are visible from the summit (steel cable and easy scrambling, partly on gravel); the lower section is mostly walkable and takes about 2½ hours.
