Demanding itinerary due to its length. The technical difficulty level is slightly higher than the Ferrata degli Alleghesi, though it is shorter. High altitude and wild environment are identical. A possible summit climb of Monte Civetta would crown the tour.
From Agordo to Passo Duran, continue until the village of Chiesa and then to Alpe della Grava.
From Alpe della Grava, follow trail number 557 to Forcella della Grava, proceed to Forcella delle Sasse (trail number 558). Descend from the pass and follow the trails on the right heading northwest. Cross a steep scree slope to the start of the ferrata (marked in red, 30 min from the pass).
In summary, long access and descent, relatively short ferrata. Perhaps it is this combination, along with its truly unique position, that makes this itinerary so fascinating. The climb must be done only if there are enough snow-free conditions. A superb panoramic view will reward your effort. Snowfields at the beginning of the season can create problems both in ascent and descent (equip with crampons if needed). The usual snow level in summer is relatively flat and walkable; the ferrata starts after a final equipped section before the descent. From here, it is another 15 minutes to Rifugio Torrani (2984 m) or continue to the summit (fixed cable and worn trail, 45 minutes).
Short steep rock steps followed by exposed traverses characterize this ferrata, which climbs a 300 m high wall that can be very intimidating if wet. A critical section is the smooth ramp at the beginning, ending with a steep step.
Descend from Rifugio Torrani via the Civetta Normal Route (ferrata and easy scrambling) to the Tivan Trail (no. 557), proceed south towards Forcella della Grava and return to the starting point.
