Ferrata and approach are both very long. Steep sections are often interrupted by bands of dwarf pine (mughi). Climb is well-equipped with a tightly tensioned steel cable and closely spaced anchors. Three bands of mughi (path by walking) interrupt the rocky steps; the first band extends over a good 200 m of elevation gain. Steep and long descent requires absolute sure-footedness.
From Caprile, coming from the west, surpass Passo San Pellegrino, or from Agordo, passing through Cencenighe in Val Cordevole. At the northern edge of the village, turn at the junction for the hamlet of Bastiani, which is reached via a narrow asphalt road (only a tiny parking area at the end!), 971 m altitude; marked with a "Ferrata Fiamme Gialle" sign.
From Bastiani, ascend the steep road, continue on a debris path to the sign for the ferrata (trail marker 562). Steep climb up until intersecting the trail descending from La Palazza (trail signs may lack numbers). Then to the left on trail 562, traverse under cliffs until reaching the start (pay attention to red markers!).
Long, demanding excursion, with a steep and extremely steep descent. Apart from a few sections, the descent path is not equipped and requires absolute sure-footedness. Particularly, the first mughi band at the beginning on rock with good holds can feel "monotonous". Below the summit, after the third mughi band, there are two possibilities for reaching the top: the summit variant, direct, very exposed, and more demanding (sign "difficult") or a gully exit with an easier final section (sign "easy ascent").
The route winds over rock, always solid and with good holds. The steel cable, well anchored, can be used almost continuously for securing. Some very smooth and steep passages, however, require significant upper body strength. The ascent (except the mughi bands) is interesting and varied. The direct exit, steep and exposed on excellent rock, adds further excitement.
From the summit (red markers), descend north to the first saddle with signposts (Rifugio Vazzoler & I Sec). Follow the "I Sec" sign. Brief climb through the mughi to the saddle between La Palazza Alta and Monte Alt de Pelsa (cairn). Then head west following trail 562 (steep gully). After a short uphill counter-slope, you reach another fork (signposts). Descend left and stay always on trail 562. This descent requires absolute sure-footedness. Except for a few sections, it is unprotected; moreover, the lower part (mughi fields) is extremely steep and eroded. Several narrow and exposed passages must be overcome (I and II grade climbing). At the junction with the ascent trail (signposts), follow it back to the starting point at Bastiani.
