The difficulty of the Sperti Ferrata lies mainly in its overall length. Both the elevation gain to overcome and the sections of hiking and climbing are significant. Moreover, the area is isolated and not crowded. It is essential to plan the tour carefully.
Via Valsugana to Feltre; from there, continue towards Belluno; turn towards Agordo and follow the signs for Bolzano Bellunese. From Bolzano Bellunese to the hamlet of Case Bortot; park at the barrier and take trail 501, which is initially flat.
From the parking area, follow trail 501 through Val de l'Art to Rifugio 7° Alpini. From the hut, turn left into the bed of a stream and after approx. 40 minutes reach the start at about 1800 m (trail signs 502 and 504).
Excluding some individual sections that are not too difficult, the ascent is very steep and physically demanding due to the long and complicated ridge section towards Gusela ridge. Even without climbing to the summit and descending via the steep Zacchi Ferrata, the route is long and suited for expert hikers. In early summer, pay attention to any remaining snow patches in the gullies. Inquire at the hut for information!
The Sperti is the longest ferrata of the Schiara group due to the long approach, long ridge traverse, and the demanding descent which represents another challenge. Medium technical difficulty. The main challenges are its length and the rock, which is often somewhat friable; otherwise, the scenery is unique. Caution is needed in case of fog!
There are the following options: a) Reaching the summit and descending to Bivacco Ugo from the Bernardina route, return via the ascent route (approx. 3 hours); or descend via the Zacchi Ferrata (shorter but steeper variant, approx. 2 hours); b) Descend via the Berti Ferrata to the summit of Schiara, cross it and descend via the Marmol Ferrata (now called Piero Rossi), approx. 4½ hours; c) Entire traverse of the Schiara via the Berti Ferrata to the summit, descend to Forcella Marmol, and proceed through the M. Guardiano equipped route to Monte Pelf; from there, return via trail 511 to Rifugio 7° Alpini. All descent routes lead to Rifugio 7° Alpini. From there, it is approx. 2½ hours back to the starting point.
