Extremely long ferrata, both in terms of elevation gain and prolonged descent. A decisively alpine route, with very tiring sections in the middle part requiring upper body strength and good footing. Most of the ascent is well-equipped with a taut steel cable in good condition. The long descent requires absolute sure-footedness, as it is only partially equipped. For this route, exceptional alpine experience, solid fitness, and excellent weather conditions are necessary.
From Agordo via Val Cordevole or from Forno di Zoldo passing through Chiesa, reach Passo Duran via a narrow asphalt road.
From Passo Duran (trail no. 549 starts at Rifugio Tomè, right at the pass), ascend to Rifugio Carestiato (overnight stay possible). From there, follow north towards the ferrata start, which is visible from the hut.
Very long, demanding, extremely alpine excursion with no "quick" escape routes. Long ascent that requires the climber not to slack off even after reaching the Masenade Ridge. A long ridge section follows, then a descent, a climb with difficult ferrata passages, and finally the steep ascent to Cima Moiazza Sud. If the summit is skipped, about 1 hour is saved. The descent route, in effect, is an extension of the Costantini Ferrata (via west), where an always-open bivouac is found (Bivacco Ghedini – Passo delle Nevere, 2601 m).
Long and, at times, rather monotonous climb. Very steep sections alternate with tedious inclined slab passages, which put a strain on the legs. Thick steel cable, well-tensioned and with closely spaced anchors. The approach and descent routes are extremely long. The ascent should absolutely be avoided in uncertain weather! NOTE: On the ledges of the Pala del Belia, a marked path leads westward to the foot of the western face (absolute certainty of footing required, partially easy climbing of grade I and II), while from Forcella delle Masenade, a track descends to Val della Moiazza to Bivacco Grisetti (well visible from the Masenade Ridge) and further down to Passo Duran. Two "escape routes" that, however, are not shortcuts at all!
From Cima Moiazza Sud, return to the saddle along the ascent route, then follow the marked trail along the Cengia Angelini and descend to Bivacco Ghedini, then to Forcella delle Nevere. From the saddle, descend on a long scree slope, unprotected, until you meet trail no. 534, which, after climbing about 50 m, leads to Rifugio Carestiato, and continues towards Passo Duran. 2½–3½ hours.
