The Piero Rossi Ferrata is the easiest ascent to Schiara. It is often chosen as a descent ferrata after the Berti Ferrata. Technically difficult only in a few short sections. The main challenge is the overall length.
Via Valsugana to Feltre; from there, continue towards Belluno; turn towards Agordo and follow the signs for Bolzano Bellunese. From Bolzano Bellunese to the hamlet of Case Bortot; park at the barrier and take trail 501, which is initially flat.
At the beginning, the route is shared with the Zacchi Ferrata. At the fork marked with signs in a field of dwarf pines, take the path to the right towards the first safety equipment.
The ex-Marmol Ferrata is not particularly difficult from a technical standpoint except for a few passages but is long and requires endurance. The rock is sometimes brittle, and the long ridge to the summit demands constant attention. The bivouac at 2266 m, recently renovated, offers shelter in case of sudden bad weather.
Interesting climb in wild terrain, partially very exposed. Difficult to navigate in fog. Should not be attempted on wet terrain or if rain is imminent, as the surrounding gullies can create a funnel effect.
From the summit, return to Forcella Marmol and descend again along the ferrata (approx. 2 hours) or continue along the M. Guardiano equipped path to Monte Pelf, then follow trails 511 and 505 back to the refuge (approx. 4½ hours).
