In 2022, a new via ferrata was installed near Plan de Corones, between the towns of San Vigilio di Marebbe (Val Badia) and Valdaora (Val Pusteria). This Dolomite-style via ferrata reaches the panoramic summit of Piz da Peres (2507 m) and, while not extremely difficult, offers enjoyable climbing on long slabs, ledges, gullies, and exposed ridge sections. The route is rated as medium difficulty, with a few points that are more demanding (difficulty D) but overall remains accessible for most enthusiasts.
The starting point is near Passo Furcia, along the winding road connecting San Vigilio di Marebbe (Val Badia) and Valdaora in Val Pusteria.
From Passo Furcia, stay on the south-facing slope and follow trail no. 3 until a junction where you ascend steeply on trail no. 12B. Pass the hut and the ski lifts until you intersect trail no. 12, which ascends from San Vigilio di Marebbe (Val Badia side). Continue uphill along trail no. 12 until you find a clear signpost directing you to the right; this leads to the ferrata start (approx. 1 hour 20 minutes from parking).
The Piz da Peres Ferrata is a beautiful route with typical Dolomitic features. It integrates well into the largely hiking-oriented area where it is built. This secondary peak has been enhanced by this ferrata, creating an attractive climbing route. The equipment is in excellent condition.
The ferrata is made up of three interesting sections, with a difficulty grade of C/D (difficult). It is located in a scenic and favourable position, with brief access paths and breathtaking panoramic views.
From the summit, there are two descent options: Retrace the ascent trail via trail no. 12, which runs parallel to the ferrata and returns to the start. For a loop route (recommended), descend the opposite side to Forcella delle Tre Dita (2330 m — approx. 30 minutes). From there, descend left into the valley to reach the wide trail no. 3, which loops back through the forest to Passo Furcia (approx. 2 hours from the summit — total time approx. 5½ hours).
